Organizational and Human Resource (OHR)
Level: Proficient
I developed in the following areas related to this competency:
"Describe ethical hiring techniques and institutional hiring policies, procedures, and processes" (p .24).
"Design a professional development plan that assesses one’s current strengths and weaknesses, and establishes action items for fostering an appropriate pace of growth" (p. 24).
"Develop and utilize appropriate meeting materials (e.g. facilitation skills, agenda, notes/ minutes)" (p. 24).
“Develop appropriate alliances with others as a means to efficiently and effectively complete work assignments; recognize how the formation of alliances can either enhance or detract from one’s professional credibility or the use of teams” (p. 25).
Academic Experience:
Class Presentations:
A major aspect of this competency is creating and presenting materials in the context of formal presentations. I have given several formal presentations over the past year, some on my own and some with co-presenters. This experience has assisted me in strengthening my public speaking skills, as well as topic organization. Many of my presentations have also allowed me to work collaboratively in groups and gain experience with working with others. Presentation topics in my classes ranged from campus research projects to feminist theory. Check out some of my proudest presentation examples below for more info.

Work Expereince:
Facilitation of Student Government Meetings:
In my SGA advisor position, I help facilitate weekly SGA meetings and bi-weekly Student Senate meetings. These meetings are a critical aspect of the week as this is the one time that most or all of the student leaders on campus are together to receive the same information at the same time and ask questions. A major role I play in these meetings is preparing the students officers and leaders in discussion of ongoing campus happenings (ie. news, events, policies, and organization updates), so that they can continue working towards their semester goals and the betterment of student life on campus. For example, I meet with the SGA President weekly to help them create a SGA meeting agenda, discuss any questions they may have, and prepare them on how to conduct these meetings with their fellow officers. The one-on-one meetings and SGA meetings not only assist in developing the students as leaders, but they also help develop my competence in facilitation skills.
Hiring at IVCC/HCC/Millikin:
Between my graduate assistantship and practicum experiences, I have had several opportunities to assist in hiring processes including interviewing and evaluating candidates for two professional CAPP positions as well as GA positions for HCC’s Student Engagement office. During these experiences, I was able to participate in ethical hiring techniques and conversations as well as observe how hiring procedures work at different institutions.
